Domes of Elounda – Luxury Family-Friendly Crete -Part 2

Here we are on the second part of our Cretan luxury holiday. Still in Elounda, it’s where the majority of 5* hotels are. We are at the Domes of Elounda a luxury boutique resort. A favourite with families, its sandy-beachside kids club run by the trusted Worldwide Kids Company (they run the one at the fabulous Sani Resort in Halkidiki where we will be jetting off to for the last week of our holiday).
Set into the hillside, the suites with jacuzzis or private pools have spectacular domes in their roofs. Painted in candy pinks, baby blues, terracotta reds and whites, the buildings themselves form part of the stunning views. We ambled each day down paths and stone walkways and steps lined with rosemary, lavender and no end of fragrant colourful flowers, such a world away from urban London. Steps provide easy walking from the highest villas down the hillside to the reception and swimming pool and beach beyond.
Domes is what I would call laid back luxury. Feet-in-the-sand beach bar serving simple but delicious food and drinks, a sandy beach (very unusual for Crete) with shade provided not by umbrellas, no, instead by a canopy of olive trees where lying beneath them, a breeze keeping the heat at bay, I read my book happily! Kinderhotel Rudolfshof- Luxury Family Skiing at its Best, Superb Value

It seems like a long time ago that we arrived back at Gatwick. Car picked up at Valet Parking, – a great tip for families, by the way- you drop of in the short-term car park, seconds from the entrance and pick-up again ready to speed home, from a much more convenient location than if you were parking yourself- our Samsonite’s all unpacked, out come Alexander’s Mini a Ture ski suit and boots, my Olang snow boots and my brand new Ray Ban Aviators that I picked up at Vision Express just before the trip. Paraphenalia all put away for next time. Continue Reading

A Weekend without the Children – The Pier at Harwich – A Boutique Hotel

August 25, 2014 by admin
The Pier at Harwich

The Pier at Harwich

“Leave Alexander at home”, and “go away just the two of you” both ignored in the past due to kid’s club. It just didn’t occur to me. However, enough was enough and after four months of broken night’s sleeps we gave in and embraced a weekend away sans enfant. Oh boy, has it given me a taste of this newfound freedom!
We didn’t go far and we didn’t go bling but we went familiar and this time found the perfect antidote for tired, old parents!
The Pier at Harwich welcomed us. Two hours through Essex (more beautiful, rolling Constable countryside than TOWIE, if you please) past Colchester- oyster capital of the UK-yum! and in to the port at Harwich. You may ask what is there to do in Harwich bar look out to sea or go crabbing from the tiny pier and this is where you would be spot on. Holiday body ready! The girls at Perfect10 have been round to preen me to within an inch of my life with a pedicure that is still intact as I write! Our Cosmolite cases packed and a Kabbee to Gatwick (new amazing mini-cab app that books and pays in one go!) A comfortable flight on a brand new Easyjet plane to Heraklion and we have arrived. Stepping off the plane in Crete we shoot to Hertz to pickup out car and we are off. Continue Reading
