Another year and another ski season, more and better skiwear. As those who know me well know, I’m an avid skier. Its the one sport that I still love and that I continue to practice as much as I can. It’s the one family activity that has been passed down through my own family and one that give so much pleasure; watching my five year old ski makes me so happy. It’s almost the only thing that he actually does that I ask him to. So much has changed over the years. In the 39(!) years that I’ve skied, I’ve worn my fair share of one pieces and salopettes to skiing in jeans with  fluorescent gaiters as a ‘cool’ teenager to now looking for style, luxury and of course function all in one. In the 80’s you couldn’t have it all but technology has evolved and the landscape, apart from the snow-topped mountains, is unrecognisable. Continue Reading

Flying home from Innsbruck from our family skiing trip, on our brand new Thomas Cook Airlines A321, I’m thankful for small mercies. Spotless plane, real service with a smile and civilised travel. Some might not associate a charter airline with such a positive outlook but then maybe this is a secret best kept to ourselves given the smooth sailing, practicality, brilliant value for money and real willingness to please of the staff – something hugely lacking in aviation these days. They also fly to great ski destinations – it’s a no brainier! 5 stars also for the truly delicious James Martin meal. Chicken actually succulent; something that many airlines can’t even manage in first class. My advice; book a meal in advance. They are really tasty! Continue Reading

The children’s birthday party market is booming and it’s a multi-million pound beast. The entertainers of yesteryear still exist but the pressure to put on the best, most memorable, party puts parents to the test big time!
I’ve had experience now of throwing some fantastic parties. Lots of planning, lots of research and ultimately a good few quid.  If you are going to spend it – I’d say an average party of 20-30 kids will easily set you back £400 – then spend it wisely. It’s been nearly a year since I’ve been to the hairdresser. That can’t be normal. My husband, for example has been at least half a dozen times to my none but then he has hair that most men envy; it grows thick and fast!

In my quest for the best blonde, I’ve been around a bit(!) and dare I say it, my usually light blonde highlights having grown out, I’m almost liking the darker colour. Heaven forbid! This only occurs to me the day before I’m due to head to Martyn Maxey – a salon, frequented by many a celeb over its twenty year plus existence (Joss Stone was here last week) and now by me.
