HealGel Review – A Very Special Guest Post

February 22, 2013 by admin

Let me start by introducing myself. I am not-so-pregnant, little-sister-lawyer-girl. Why, you may ask, am I choosing to make an appearance now? Well, like my older Pregnant City sister, I am always on the hunt for cosmeceuticals that don’t just postulate ridiculous claims and merely leave my pocket lighter and my vanity more intense. No, I want a product that can genuinely make improvements to my very sensitive, often red and flaky (particularly in winter as I suffer from mild rosacea), scar-prone skin, whilst smoothing out the pesky two lines on my forehead which have kindly decided to reveal themselves in the last year or so. Essentials- Tommee Tippee – Over 50 years old it’s a Brand to trust.

February 19, 2013 by admin

I remember Tommee Tippee. Generations of Tommee Tippee. We all wore the bibs when we were babies and the fact that my son wears one today says a lot for a product. To survive this long in the big bad world. There are names that you trust because your mother trusted them and this is one of those for me. There is something special about using the same brand generation after generation isn’t there? Or is it just that I am getting older and nostalgic for the past? Whichever, it works for me. I am writing this because of a handful of new additions to the family this week. I am very aware that the paraphernalia that comes along with having a baby is limitless. You can acquire stuff on top of stuff on top of more stuff and still find more that you ‘need’. However, not me. I made a conscious decision not to do so. Plus, we can’t afford to, neither money-wise nor space-wise, so I choose carefully. Continue Reading

Car Seat- All Change Please!

February 11, 2013 by admin

It’s reached that time where, the car seat that we brought our precious 4lb 4oz baby home from the hospital in, the one that he was swimming in, has become too small. He’s over 14 months old already. Quite a petite baby, or at least not a ‘big’ baby so we have had the luxury of a little bit of time to save up!
Car seats aren’t cheap and depending on the one you choose needs to be changed every few years as your child grows.
In our family we have a little problem. Neither of our cars has IsoFix. Both being older than 2007 when every car has the metal bars that an IsoFix car seat attaches itself to. IsoFix is the european safety standard. It’s the other option to attaching your baby seat using the seatbelt. When I first did my research I was worried that we wouldn’t find a seat that I would be happy with that would fit but we did. We bought the Maxi Cosi Pebble. It attached to our pram and it has served us well, easily moving from car to car as we have needed. I went straight for the top of the range with car seat number one. Our first baby, the lack of IsoFix. The quality is fantastic and I really felt that baby PCG was safe and cocooned. They aren’t light but I very soon learnt, once baby PCG wasn’t so fragile, that I didn’t need to take him everywhere in the car seat. For me it was worth it for the peace of mind.
It was with this in mind that I began my search for the next car seat up in size. You go by weight of the baby so it all depends when you actually need the next stage up.
We started with what I believe to be the Rolls Royce of car seat manufacturers They don’t come cheap, in fact they are amongst the most expensive but they are top of the range. Independent award-winning and not just meeting all safety requirements but significantly beating them. Maxi Cosi also offer quite a choice of seats for toddlers which all can be fitted to a car with a seatbelt and if I am going to have to use the seat belt option then I want the strongest and most durable. We went for the Axiss in the end. In black. It doesn’t have a separate base so the whole chair gets transferred from car to car but that’s easy – especially when it’s not me doing the transfer! It isn’t the safest out of the options available from Maxi Cosi with four out of five stars in their rating but it also, amazingly, rotates ninety degrees to make it easy to take your little one in and out of the car and it has eight different seating positions from reclining to upright so our little angel can relax when he wants to. Lastly, for the inquisitive toddlers the seating height is high. Something I have always championed with our pram especially. Why shouldn’t my little prince have the best view! Continue Reading

Why can’t we let Children be Children? In France they do!

It’s funny. For someone as progressive and open-minded as I am, I am also quite old-fashioned and obstinate. What am I going to talk about, you ask yourselves. Gay marriage? Immigration into the UK? No. Actually, I can’t handle serious topics. I get too ‘passionate’ about my opinions. What I am going to talk about today though is clothing. I can just about handle clothing; The nice side of dressing your kids.
I was a very lucky child growing up. I was totally spoilt and very well dressed. A combination of purchases on European holidays with almost weekly visits to Harrods or Fortnum’s.
I was never overdressed, don’t get me wrong but I had good quality clothes, lots bought in the sale and when I was a toddler the most beautiful smock dresses in the summer paired with matching knickers. I was dressed like a little girl. I sound so old when I say this because I don’t want to turn back time (much) and I truly appreciate the wonders of science and progress but some things have definitely been lost along the way. Our children have become precocious. Wanting to grow up to soon, too fast. Parents try to push adult fashion on to little kids. Clothing manufacturers don’t help either. Why do adults want to dress their children up to be mini adults? Why can’t they wear clothes that are designed for children? What’s the hurry? Well. I have found one brand that does just that. Classic, timeless pieces for kids that look like kids. I love their design, all from France and made in the UK out of beautiful quality fabrics.

Here’s a sneak peek of toddler PCG in a classic and easy to wear summer romper suit!
It can be found on the website here. Continue Reading
